Matt Mercurio
Biography
Matt Mercurio is a theatrically trained stage and film actor. His recent film credits include supporting roles in films with such names as Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Garner, Donald Sutherland and Academy Award-winners Jamie Foxx and Helen Mirren. Matt's recent TV credits include roles on "Ballers" (HBO), "The Inspectors" (CBS), and recurring roles on the hit FOX show, "Sleepy Hollow" and the Sony Playstation Network show "Powers". His regional theatre credits include Tony Award-winning theatres such as the Williamstown Theatre Festival and the Alliance Theatre, as well as the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Matt is a national finalist of the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship and recipient of the American College Theatre Festival's Marvin Sims Diversity Award in Acting. Matt's childhood dream of becoming a pro-wrestling World Champion echoed his taste for the theatrical. His path, however, would lead him away from a ring and into a different kind of spotlight. His flair for the dramatic and penchant for pranks & jokes often landed him in hot water while he was in school. Matt's class clown antics made it so that he found himself a frequent visitor of the Dean's Office for disciplinary action. Administrative faculty at his middle school suggested that their regular visitor "find a way to focus all of that energy." Matt was enrolled into Drama class in the 8th grade and from then on, acting, theatre, and film became the passions that would consume his life and paint his dreams. Matt studied acting at Florida State College's Theatre Performance program on a full-time performance talent grant and at the BFA Acting program at the University of Florida's School of Theatre and Dance, where Matt was a proud member of the hip-hop theatre troupe, Signs of Life, as a performer, writer, director, and producer. His training also includes a full scholarship as an apprentice company member at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where he also studied stand up comedy with comedian Lewis Black as well as improv comedy with the Upright Citizens Brigade. A first-generation American and product of two military parents, Matt spent most of his adolescent life in Jacksonville, Florida after spending his early childhood in Orlando, Florida where he was born. Matt continues his passions for hip hop theatre and filmmaking in addition to maintaining his acting career.
